GIOTTO

A genetic optimizer for high-brightness particle beams

GIOTTO is a multi-objective genetic algorithm developed at INFN for the optimization of charged-particle beamlines, with a primary focus on high-brightness electron sources and linac layouts. Originally developed for accelerator physics, it has evolved into a general-purpose optimization framework capable of driving virtually any software executable from the OS command line.
The code is currently maintained within the INFN CSN5 GIOTTO project (2026–2028).
